On the surface, it looks like you have many sorts of problems. Maybe we have the problem that we don’t have enough money to pay for the rent. Maybe we are having a hard time eating healthy and losing weight. Perhaps we don’t get along with our parents, siblings, or coworkers. Perhaps we are living most of your life virtually instead of connecting with others. We can assign the money problem to not having the skills required to step into a bigger role at work. We could assign our weight problems to lack of discipline or loving food too much. We could believe that people just don’t “get me”, and that is why we choose to be alone. In one way, we could see these are all different types of problems with all different kids of causes and therefore different solutions. However, I submit to you that there is only one cause to all of your problems and it is confusion. You have forgotten who you really are and how reality operates. In your forgetting, you are mistaking lies for truth and truth for lies.

Let’s start with who you are not. You are not this little tiny human in perpetual competition with the other 8 billion tiny humans alone in the world. You are not the thoughts that come into your awareness. You are not the emotions that you feel. You are not the body that you are inhabiting. You are that which is experiencing those thoughts, feelings, and sensations in the body.

You are the infinite light of awareness focused into a single stream. Just like a river that branches out into different streams, so too you are a stream of the river. In actuality, you are the river itself. You are the water itself. You are not separate from the river in any meaningful way. You are just branching out momentarily so explore one specific path. When you forget you are the water, you suffer.

You are a focusing mechanism that expands whatever it is focused on-for the good, for the bad, and for the ugly. You are inherently free, joyful, and open. That is your true nature. What happens is that you lose yourself so deeply into the experience that you are having that forget you are not the experience itself. Your real identity is the great I AM. You are infinite and unlimited, momentarily playing the role of a human. But your essence is not human, it is spirit. You are a spiritual being having a human experience, not a physical being having spiritual experiences.

When you remember who you really are, you realize that you can choose to experience whatever you want to experience. You don’t have to get it, you have it within. You don’t have to become it. You are it. You have it and are it because you are all there is. Everything is available and accessible to you right here and now.
